Project #5 idea

I plan on exploring the possibilities within charactitures and portraits. I want to explore the satirical possibilities of a charactiture by producing an entertaining image that also carries a message or statement with it. Continuing my use of photoshop as more of a coloring book, I plan on producing the actual charactiture by hand and making digital adjustments, whether that be by coloring the image or adding photoshop elements to make the image more lively. I also want to experiment in mundane compositions, though not necessarily boring ones. I want to see if I can produce compositional layouts that in normal instances shouldn't interesting, but are within my work, possibly by making the portrait or charactiture more interesting to look at through line quality or something of that nature.

I think I'm going to tweak this so the books pop a bit more, add a little more layering and see if I can't add something to make the image a little more energetic.

Destroy the Icon (#'s 9.5-12)

I did a couple more ideas involving the scanogram. They seem to be further away from the actual destruction of the icon than previous attempts, but I really wanted to get the idea that the mother is strapped for cash and focused on that aspect more so than destroying. I also tweaked one of the last pictures so there was alot more contrast.

Re-scanned scanogram

Here's a re-scanned version of my scanogram. The guitar picks in the last one didn't really fit and I wanted to add more coins. I also draped my coat over the scanner so I can have a black background.

Still trying to avoid heavy distortion with the mother's face, though the image of her mouth ended up being extremely distorted anyway.

With this one, I was trying to get away from really heavily altered faces and simply masked over the highlights and midtones of the mother's face, letting the shadows mesh up with the background.

What my main idea going into this was to trying and distort the face as much as possible, because I feel that's the most recognizable aspect of the photo. I also didn't want to use any other aspect aside from the actual picture. All the patterns, with the exception of the scanogram, are from the original picture.
